After an ancient mix of the Indian and Egyptian civilisations, it’s the turn of the Norse with Powercoin’s Sail with the Vikings

It was in September 2025 that Powercoin launched its five-coin series of Ancient Egyptian themed coins. Each of them depicted an aspect of that impressive civilisation, in colour, and all were on gilded, leaf-shaped one-ounce silver coins. The range was unusual in having an exceptionally small mintage of just 99 pieces per design, akin to those of Numiscollect’s Pop Coins brand. It’s a practice that could well thrive in this period of high silver prices.

That design ethos applies equally to this second collection of five issues. Here the subject is the Vikings, and instead of a gilded leaf, this series features a gilded longship as its backdrop. On the reverse face sits a coloured depiction of one of five well known Viking figures, all generally accepted to be historical, rather than characters in one of the many Norse texts. They’re all certainly recognisable to viewers of the many television shows based around them.

For me, it’s the common obverse that is the star here, and the depiction of the Viking Longship is an impressive one. The character art is decent, although a little too modern, but that Longship does the business for me. All five coins are available to order now, and come presented in a floating frame box. As we said, only 99 of each design will be struck, and that’s a very low number for this format.
