The stackable silver range from Coin’s Today adds the King of the Beasts, and the ultimate Roman boast to the portfolio

Easily one of the finest bullion ranges in production today, South Korean producer, Coin’s Today’, has built an extensive portfolio of ambitious and esoteric designs. They cover a huge range of themes, from nature to science and history, and today, we have their latest pair of designs, one from the natural world, and one from ancient architecture.

The first of them is this superb Lion portrait, packed with detail in the mane, and sporting an almost guilloche-like texture for the fur. It manages to walk a fine line between the natural and heraldic styles, although biased towards the former. Like most of this producer’s range, it’s antique-finished, two ounces in weight, and fully stackable. Continuing their move away from unlimited mintages, the Lion tops out at 10,000 pieces.

THE LION STACKABLE

The second release is this terrific triumphal arch. These were built by Roman generals and Emperors to celebrate major victories over their enemies, and there are quite a few of them around the world, especially in Rome itself. The subject of this design is the iconic Arc de Triomphe in Paris. Ironically, this wasn’t constructed by the Romans, but was commissioned in 1806 by another famous big-head, Napoleon Bonaparte, to celebrate his victory at the pivotal Battle of Austerlitz. It wasn’t completed until 1836, and Napoleon died in 1821, but he did get his parade around it when his remains were returned to France in 1840.

This piece is very close to the legendary French monument, with most of the details correct. It’s an impressive reproduction given the size, and the fact that it has to be stackable as well. The figures on the front, and the detailing on the cornice are all there, even down to the brickwork texture. While there are even more attractive and ancient triumphal arches around, the choice of inspiration here is both understandable for its modern condition, and also for its sheer recognisability. We’d love to see the concept continued.

Both the Lion, and the arch should be available to order any time now.
