The New Zealand Mint has rebranded its collectible coin division as Agoro

There isn’t a coin producer around that has such a presence in the licenced pop-culture coin market than the New Zealand Mint. In fact, it’s the overwhelming majority of their issues, with huge names like Star Wars, Harry Potter, Marvel, DC Comics, and so many more. Their name is inextricably linked with this market, so it was with some surprise we learned that a rebranding was upon us.

Called Agoro, a mash-up of Ag (silver), and Oro (Spanish for gold), this branding will now adorn the full range of collectible coin releases moving forward, although we understand series already in progress will remain the same for now, to keep a consistent look with prior issues. The New Zealand Mint brand will now deal solely with their bullion business.

It seems a strange decision to move away from an iconic numismatic brand like this, but they are quite prolific issuers of high-profile branded coins, so we’d expect collectors to accept it in relatively short order, especially as the mint is beginning to be a bit more ambitious in its designs. New releases are already out there with the branding, and we should get high-res images shortly, so we can cover them. Their website can now be reached at https://www.agoro.com/ I’ve amended the category link to read NZ Mint/Agoro in the meantime.
