The Aliens are back for round two! Scottsdale Ghanaian bullion series returns with a new design
Producers of the industry’s most wide-ranging selection of bullion coins on the market today, Scottsdale have coins for everything from ancient history, to the natural world. Issued for nations around the world, and in a wide range of formats, you always wonder what on Earth that have coming next. Well last year, it seemed the latest series wasn’t on Earth at all, when they debuted the Ghanaian Alien range.
Depicting the classic ‘Grey’ alien of lore, in front of a rocket launch and charts (check the video below), it seemed to be very popular. This year, that same alien is back, complete with a face only his mother could love. He stands in front of their version of a stargate, staring intently at the holder of the coin. Have to say, it’s very cool, tapping in to the popular mythos around this type of alien. The common obverse returns with its neat planetary imagery on it, along with the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II in the centre.
The extensive selection of formats returns, and brings with it a new addition, the only one not weighing in at one troy ounce. The base variant is the classic silver bullion, and that one is also available in an attractive antiqued finish. There are two silver proof coins, complete with glow-in-the-dark eyes, each coming boxed with a Certificate of Authenticity. One of them is Black Rhodium plated. Mintages range from 1,500 pieces, to 25,000.
Last year there was a one-ounce gold with a dinky 100 unit mintage, also with the coloured eyes and coming boxed with a Certificate of Authenticity. For the 2022 issue, that’s been joined by a brilliant uncirculated bullion version of one-tenth of an ounce in weight. It has a mintage of just 1,000 pieces. A very welcome addition, especially given the price of gold these days.
Another great issue in Scottsdale Mint’s copious range, and with a nice mix of variants. The Ghanaian Alien range is a pretty unique one in a bullion market filled with nature and cultural designs, and deserves success for that alone, in our view. That it’s so neat is just icing on the cake. Available now.
