Spiderman joins the growing silver bullion market with a one ounce coin from Tuvalu

The silver bullion coin market continues to expand in choice with the debut of a new Perth Mint coin featuring the iconic Marvel character Spiderman. We don’t have much information at present as this is a commissioned piece and not issued directly by the Perth Mint, but we know enough to get going.

Available as a one-ounce fine silver (0.999) coin and issued for the Oceanic state of Tuvalu, the coin will have a maximum mintage of 50,000 pieces, a number we can’t imagine they’ll have much trouble shifting. While we’ve yet to see the obverse, it’s a safe bet it will be the usual Ian Rank Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II surrounded by the typical inscriptions (date, denomination etc.).

The design looks like a good one. Although just line art at present, the fact it’s struck by the Perth Mint bodes well for the quality and integrity of the finished article. Quite a dynamic looking piece, it’s officially licenced so subject to all the usual franchise checks on design and quality that Disney/Marvel enforce.

A couple of German dealers have them up for around €25 per coin, so priced as a bullion coin, but with a higher than usual premium. We’d say that’s to be expected given the licencing costs and extended design process involved in something like this. Apparently available in early June, we’ll post more information when we finally have it.
