It finally happened! Scottsdale Mint concludes its epic ten-year, sixty coin journey through Gustave Dore’s biblical woodcuts

The day has finally arrived! Scottsdale Mint has issued the final two coins in what has been an epic range of coins. Launched in 2015, Biblical Series was touted as a sixty-coin, decade long program, and I must admit, I had some initial scepticism as to whether it would ever complete, given their much smaller Vikings series didn’t, but pleased to see I was wrong to doubt them.

So here we are, a decade later, with all sixty coins now available, following the release of ‘The Resurrection’ and ‘The Last Judgment’. For those unaware, this is a two-ounce, antique-finished coin range, based around the mid-19th century woodcuts by French artist, Paul Gustave Dore. He was a prolific, and very highly regarded engraver, who produced over four times as many Bible images as those in this series, so Scottsdale Mint had plenty of options.

The last two issues are a fitting end for what has been one of the most impressive achievements in modern numismatics, and giving those with a love of the theme, something to cherish for many years. Scottsdale Mint are to be commended for completing it almost bang on time, especially when you consider covid and all the other stuff we’ve experienced over the last decade, and for even planning and undertaking such a series at all. It makes you wonder what they’ll come up with next.
