Powercoin follows their Pioneer space coin with the fascinating 1977 WOW! Signal

Following their interesting take on the plaque included in the Pioneer spacecraft that were destined to hurtle into the void, by Powercoin last year, the Rome-based producer has released another coin in a similar vein, this time based around the famous 1977 ‘WOW’ signal, which remains to this day not fully understood.

The signal was fascinating, but beyond the scope of this site, but I’ve added a neat video from the outstanding YouTube channel Cool Worlds, which I have huge respect for, and actually knows what they’re talking about. The coin plays on the belief that it’s an alien signal, with an alien and human hand touching against a backdrop of digital output, representing the signal itself, and the infamous ‘6EQUJ5’ sequence that triggered the exclamation that gave it the name.

The obverse shows a classic ‘grey’ alien reaching out, as it’s postulated they did with the digital sequence originally. The whole coin is a symbolic look at what could have been in the eyes of many. Maybe it was nothing, but it is intriguing, regardless, and makes a fine subject following up the Pioneer plaque coin. The coin comes boxed with a COA, and just 499 pieces will be struck.
