Emporium Hamburg’s World’s Wildlife series returns with a Peregrine Falcon in proof and bullion form

Emporium Hamburg has a fine history when it comes to bullion coins, with such staples of the bullion calendar as the Somali Elephant, Prehistoric Life, the African Leopard, and World’s Wildlife in their repertoire. It’s the last of those that we’re looking at here, with the sixth annual release since it launched in 2019. However, our first focus will be on the limited gold proof set, which carries a considerably more varied range of artwork than the singular image utilised for the bullion coins.

There are four coins in this set, topped by the one-ounce, which is joined by half, quarter, and tenth ounce fractionals. The designs are really varied, depicting the falcon in a number of poses, from a portrait on the smallest coin, to a nesting scene on the half-ounce. The one-ounce view of the bird in flight is employed on the bullion range. The set is boxed with a Certificate of Authenticity, and only 300 will be produced.

It’s a very attractive set, possibly our favourite of the six released to date. At around 5,500 Euro, it will be out of the reach of most, so it’s a shame there isn’t a silver set. If you like the tenth-ounce coin, you can also buy that as a minigold (0.5 gram) proof, which are usually available at well under 100 Euro. For those with deeper pockets, there will be a five-ounce proof gold carrying the one-ounce design.

The bullion range differs in that it standardised the design on the one-ounce proof coin, and that’s been the case since the range debuted in 2019 with a giraffe design. All four variants also adopt the one-ounce weight. Outside the obvious difference in the quality of the finish, there are no differences on the gold bullion coin.

The base silver variant also has no changes, but in this case, there are a pair of other offerings with smaller mintages. The first of the pair is a coin with an almost fully coloured reverse face. The second is a little more subtle, employing a gilded finish to just the bird, highlighting it over the background. You can see all the releases since 2019 in our Bullion Profile. All are available to order now, with shipping in a couple of weeks.
