Odin’s legendary spear, Gungnir, is the latest mythological weapon of war to get the silver miniature treatment

One of the richest, and most beloved of the ancient mythologies, is that of the Norse peoples. The pantheon of deities is both expansive, and full of fascinating characters, all under the watchful eye of Odin, the leader of the gods. While Thor is inextricably linked to his enchanted hammer, Mjölnir, Odin’s weapon of choice is less well-known. Said to never miss its target once thrown, Gungnir was Odin’s spear, fabricated by the Sons of Ivaldi, dwarves, led by the master blacksmith Dvallin.

Spectres has created a miniature homage to it, and they describe it thus “The spearhead features Yggdrasil, signifying the cosmic order Odin governs. Below, Odin’s helmet bears the Valknut, a mark of fallen warriors, flanked by his ravens, Huginn and Muninn, who represent thought and memory. Along the spear’s shaft, ODIN (ᛟᛞᛁᚾ) and GUNGNIR (ᚼᚢᚭᚼᚭᚣ) are engraved in Norse runes, reinforcing its legendary might, while the back of the handle bears the combined runes ᚷ and ᛜ, further linked to the power of Gungnir.

At the spear’s base, Odin’s eight-legged steed, Sleipnir, charges forward alongside his wolves, Geri and Freki, symbolizing strength and loyalty. The Triple Horn of Odin, representing wisdom and poetic inspiration, and The Helm of Awe, a rune of protection and victory, complete the design. The entire piece is adorned with Norse motifs and patterns, fully integrating every element of Odin’s mythos into a striking tribute.”

It’s an impressive piece, as most of these miniatures are, and comes in at a healthy 180 mm in length, good considering the two-ounce weight. It appears to be intricately detailed with Norse iconography, and the whole thing is very attractive, clearly having much attention spent on it at the design stage. Gungnir will have a serial number engraved on it, and come boxed, although we’ve yet to see packaging at the time of writing. The mintage is set at 540 (after the number of gates to Valhalla), and is available to order now.
