Numiscollect’s ‘Growing Up’ series of silver coins charting the life cycle of animals, continues with the Stallion
A very pretty coin was launched by Numiscollect earlier this year, the first in its new ‘Growing Up’ series, which gave us a glimpse into the life-cycle of the King of the Beasts, the lion. Back with a second issue, the series has moved to the steppes of Mongolia and that most magnificent of creatures, the horse.
Like the first coin, this one has a split finish, with the ultra-high-relief reverse face having a black proof finish, while the high-relief obverse is standard proof. The reverse has a striking view of three horses galloping towards the viewer, complete with some excellent anatomy, showing off their power. There’s a stylised image of a younger animal in the background, which we’re less keen on, but on the whole, a fine looking design, greatly enhanced with Smartminting..
The obverse is splendid, and focused on the foal drinking from a pond, with the reflection of an adult in the surface of the water. This was also the case with the lion coin, and it works equally well here. It’s a neat touch to see the issuing country move from Tanzania (appropriate for the lion, of course) to Mongolia, a nation which was literally built around the horse, which remains so important there, even today.
So, another fine release, full of neat touches, this two-ounce 0.999 silver coin has a mintage of just 333 pieces, and comes nicely presented, as you’d expect. It’s available to pre-order from dealers now, and has already sold-out at the mint.
