Numiscollect dips back into the Fairy Tale world with a fourth issue – Alice in Wonderland

That classic mind-bending tale of wonder in a mad world has returned to numismatics with the fourth in Numiscollect’s ‘Fairy Tales’ series of three-ounce silver coins. Alice in Wonderland is a well known literary masterpiece, full of iconic scenes, and with an extraordinary cast of eclectic characters.

The Mad Hatter, the Queen of Hearts, Tweedledum & Tweedledee, and the Cheshire Cat all point to Lewis Carroll’s fertile imagination, but it all started with Alice running into, and following, the White Rabbit down a hole into Wonderland. It’s here that Numiscollect have chosen to focus their design efforts.

Alice, in her classic blue dress, is chasing the White Rabbit, who is just about to dart down the tunnel to Wonderland, that lies next to a tree. In the background, we see the potion that shrinks Alice, and the key to open the door to this weird world. An excellent design, utilising smartminted high-relief, an antique finish, and some very well-chosen coloured highlights.

The common obverse returns, which is attractive enough, and still features the Ian Rank Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. We’d expect the 2024 issue to make the transition to King Charles III. The coin comes boxed with a COA, of course, and the mintage is capped at 333 pieces. You can read about a previous issue, Snow White, in our earlier article. Available to order now.
