MK’s extraordinary Celadon porcelain mounted Claude Monet silver coin returns with a later water lillies painting from 1907

MK’s extraordinary Celadon porcelain mounted silver coin, featuring the 1889 Water Lily Pond art of Claude Monet was quite a departure from the numismatic norm. Sitting inside a 30 cm diameter green-tinged porcelain plate, the two-ounce silver coin featured an iconic work from the French impressionist painter’s water lily body of works.

The Singapore-based producer has now issued their second coin, staying with Monet’s water lily tranche of artwork, but moving forward to 1907 for a different interpretation of the artist’s first love. There are plenty to choose from, with Monet having painted around 250 works in this series, so lots of source material for later coins. This circular painting currently resides in the Musée d’art moderne (Saint-Étienne).

As before, the coin is single-sided, as it’s mounted to the plate, and the issue details are inscribed into the artwork, fortunately in a sympathetic, and not intrusive way. It’s also allowed the coin to span an impressive 100 mm in diameter. The back of the plate carries the red-highlighter maker’s mark from the first release.

The packaging is about as lush as you could imagine. A fine quality box with a custom stand inside means displaying this piece is easy, and it should remain protected when stored. Available to order now, only 75 of these will be produced, so availability will be very limited.
