Mint XXI marks the heroic Ukrainian stand against Russian forces around the Azovstal Steelworks with a charity silver coin

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock this year, you’ll be well aware of what is happening in Ukraine. A full invasion by Russia was actually unexpected, but attack they did. It was a disaster, and the myth of Russian military might has taken a hit as a result. That isn’t to say Ukraine hasn’t suffered – far from it. There are numerous examples of heroic last stands and counter-attacks, but one that will be remembered above most took place in the Azovstal Iron & Steelworks factory complex in Mariupol. Despite eventually falling, the defence of the factory has inspired resistance in Ukraine.

Mint XXI has launched a new coin with a neat design. Harking back to the late-medieval style of armour, the warrior is wearing a helmet covered in the workings of a factory of this type, compete with pipes and storage tanks. The obverse looks like rusting metal with peeled-back paint, and bullet holes. These are renders, of course, but we’d certainly be intrigued to see images of the finished article, and suspect it will look very cool in hand.

It’s boxed with a Certificate of Authenticity, and most importantly, all the profits from the sales of the coin will be donated to military and humanitarian causes in Ukraine. You can buy the coin from Top World Coins, with others to follow maybe, and it has a mintage of 333 pieces. A chance to own a fine looking coin, and contribute to a solid cause.
