Mint of MK heads into the soulful world of jazz with a striking new retro microphone style silver coin
One of the most experimental and innovative producers working today, Mint of MK, is at it again with a striking debut for their latest coin series, ‘Voices of Music’. Going on the evidence of this first issue, we have the feeling that this will shape up to be one of the more eclectic ranges from MK, and indeed, from anyone else.
The first issue is called ‘Jazz Soul Mic’, a fully dimensional coin, and shaped like a retro microphone, even down to the hinged stand. On the head of the reverse face is a pretty, bust portrait of a female jazz singer performing, using one of the very same microphones, and alongside a musical note. It’s all antique finished, and beautifully realised.
On the obverse, at the base of the stand, is inscribed the state shield of the Republic of Cameroon, along with the coin issue inscriptions, as this is a fully denominated coin. It all comes boxed with a certificate of authenticity, and just 199 of these will be minted. Mint of MK must have been tempted to go higher, I would have been, but that’s an attractive number, and kudos to them for sticking with it.
A really terrific debut for a series we’ll be watching closely. It’s always a pleasure to see something as original as this, especially when done by someone with a reputation for quality. Our favourite release from MK this year.
