Mint 21 goes spiritual with a new silver coin combining the mandala and the world of nature

REVERSEOBVERSE

Mint 21 are back with something a little more unusual. There are only a few example of mandalas on coins, headlined by Art Mint’s superb range of examples, so this isn’t an over-used genre, and one with colour are rarer still.

Rather than just a geometric pattern, Mint21 has incorporated an elephant head into the design, using colour to highlight the many elements that form it – this isn’t a natural portrait, of course. The whole antiqued design has strong echoes of the Indian subcontinent, and it’s topped off with an inset Swarovski crystal, set into the forehead of the elephant.

The whole design taps into the spiritual nature of the concept and culture of the region and the artistic style even carries over onto the effigy-adorned obverse, something we’d like to see more of on coins that carry the Queens head.

Shipping next month, this two-ounce fine silver coin will come boxed with a certificate of authenticity numbering which of the 500 mintage you have. Something different from the norm, and that’s always welcome.
