Pik Coin’s three-issue Peaky Blinders silver coin series concludes with the Shelby family matriarch, Polly
Peaky Blinders tells the story of a post First World War criminal enterprise in Birmingham, England. Named after the razor blades embedded in the peaks of their flat caps, the family enterprise tries to dominate the alcohol, betting, and other markets through violence and intimidation, fighting off rivals in a brutal world. Starring Cillian Murphy as Thomas Shelby, it has a hugely talented cast playing characters, centred around the rest of the family, headed by the matriarch, Elizabeth Pollyanna Gray, played by the late, and very great, Helen McCrory. A new film has just hit cinemas, which will debut on Netflix on 20 March, and it looks brilliant (trailer below).
Polly is depicted in fine style on the coin, successfully capturing the ruthless calm, and effortless style of the character, and the actress that played her. Not a lady to be trifled with! We’re not surprised, as the previous Tommy and Arthur coins were outstanding portrayals. We had a quick look in Berlin in late January, and they’re so much more impressive in the hand. The coin is antique-finished, with gilded highlights for the text elements, and the high-relief is well realised.
The common obverse does good service again, encapsulating the three characters from the series perfectly, amidst the terraced houses of period England. As before, this two-ounce coin comes boxed with a Certificate of Authenticity, and has a mintage of 500 pieces. These three coins have coalesced into an exceptional homage to one of the finest crime dramas of all time, and you really couldn’t ask for more than that. Polly Gray is available to order now.
