In shock news, the British Pobjoy Mint is to close after 58 years of producing fine coins for 42 states around the globe

In shock news, Pobjoy Mint has announced it is to close after 58 years of producing a huge range of coins for countries located in all corners of the globe. Founded in 1965 by Derek Pobjoy, and run by Taya Pobjoy as the Managing Director since 1998, the mint has had an impressive history, from developing virenium for coins, to striking the world’s first titanium coin, and issuing for over 40 nations.

It’s been a tough few years for everyone, and with retirement coming up, Taya has taken the difficult decision to close the business. For us, and no doubt thousands of collectors around the world, the mints unique style will be sorely missed, and we wish the best for the future to everyone that worked there.

Anyone interested in buying one of their 20 presses, contact the mint directly.

PRESS ANNOUNCEMENT

It is with great sadness that Managing Director Taya Pobjoy has announced her official retirement and the closure of Pobjoy Mint after 58 years of manufacturing official currency and commemorative coins. The Mint closure will take place at the end of 2023 so customers will have a chance to complete their collections for the full year, with some releases being brought forward to allow plenty of time for collectors to buy them.

“I’ve made the big decision to retire this year. My prime objective is to give the customers our service until the end and to make sure that they get a complete year because we all know that coin collecting is an annual thing with a date change. So it’s been very much on my mind when making this decision to make sure I give a good service to the very end to my customers…” – Taya Pobjoy

Pobjoy Mint’s website will remain open until the end of November 2023 and therefore all outstanding orders will be fulfilled and dispatched before that date. We encourage all customers to use all remaining reward points available on their accounts before this deadline, otherwise you’ll be at risk of losing them. Our Customer Service channels will also be open until such date for any queries you might have.
