In the year that sees the FIFA World Cup play out, Numistrade add football to their fledgling Sporting Ounce bullion series

Numistrade debuted the Sporting Ounce bullion series last year, joining their classic African Ounce, Nautical Ounce, and Lunar Ounce ranges, all of which are also issued for Rwanda. They all follow a similar design ethos, differing mainly in their theme more than anything else. This series kicked off with cycling, but has now headed to the world’s biggest sport – Football, and it doesn’t get more timely than in a FIFA World Cup year.

It’s a good image, showing that most exciting of motions, the shot on goal. The background, with the net and the crowd behind it, is very nicely detailed for a bullion coin, and the small pictogram at the top has changed to suit the sport. The common obverse, also used by the other ranges, is back again, just as expected. The range of silver bullion is unchanged, with the classic ounce, and the highly unusual 1/12 oz formats returning. That small size is also available in gold, as before, but in a sensible concession to the current price of gold, which has risen $1,500 in a year, the one ounce gold has been superseded by a 1/4 oz, with the mintage doubled to 200.

The 80 mm diameter range of one-ounce coins returns, with the same selection of proof, coloured, gilded and antiqued finishes. For context, that results in a surface area approximately four times that of a 40 mm diameter coin. However, there are changes in availability. Last year, you could buy one of the 500 proof coins separately, but the other three were confined to 333 sets of 3. For 2026, all four variants are capped to 333 pieces, and all are available individually. The box can be purchased on its own, and will hold three coins, which I feel is a better option. Available to order now.
