Great Cities series of proof silver coins from Niue showcases the London skyline.

The second of Niue Island’s Great Cities coin series is out now and after the debut of New York just a month ago, we’re now off to another major metropolis, London. Rather than go for a realistic or coloured depiction of Britains capital city, this continues the design style set out with the first coin of being clean struck to a proof standard on a one-ounce fine silver round.

Taking a selection of well known highlights of the London skyline, in this case such iconic buildings as the Shard, Parliament Tower, the London Eye, and Tower Bridge, they’re mixed together to form a tight panorama. There’s little question about what’s being depicted on this coin. Again, just the city name and the composition are inscribed on the reverse face, with the obverse carrying the usual effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Packaging is very well done and you can buy one of the 3,000 being minted right now for $80.00 USD. There will no doubt be more to come, this kind of series from the NZ Mint normally consists of five coins.
