Exclusive first look: Emporium Hamburg’s flagship ‘Somali Elephant’ bullion coin series debuts its 2022 design

It seems to be a big day for bullion, with the Perth Mint’s new range and now another grand old lady of the coin market, the Somali Elephant, also debuting its 2022 entrant. The Elephant first appeared way back in 2004, which puts it as one of the oldest independantly produced bullion coin series around, and it’s good to see it’s as popular as ever.

The 2022 coin is stylistically very much in keeping with the series look, having an adult and a calf walking, with the iconic Baobab tree in the background, along with birds and the sun. These are all elements that have appeared regularly in the series over the last couple of decades, and they all combine here to create a nice fresh looking coin We like it.

At present we have render images of the one ounce gold, and the one ounce and one kilogram silver, but regular collectors will know its a more extensive range than that. Further down we’ve listed out all the different versions of the 2021 coin, and we’d expect most of those to put in an appearance as the year unfolds. Available any time now,
