Mint of MK kicks off the new year with an eight coin look at the relationship between Buddha and the days of the week

Mint of MK have kicked off 2025 with their first multi-coin release to debut in a single launch. This talented producer has issued some superb series over the last couple of years, like their Twelve Constellations, and 9 Dragons ranges, but usually spread out over a year, and occupying the higher end. For this series, they’ve gone for the simultaneous release of eight, more affordable one-ounce coins.

The subject is Buddha, and more specifically, his relationship with the days of the week via the seven postures, with Wednesday having two, one for the day, and one for the evening. They’re especially prevalent in Thailand, where you’ll see numerous statues depicting the various incarnations, and where the day of the week you’re born on is important. MK has provided descriptions of them below.

The coins are all dimensional, with good levels of high-relief and detail on both faces. They have a clean, traditional look, perfectly in keeping with the style of the Buddha in Thai culture. While each of the eight is formed in an ounce of fine silver, they’re fully gilded – again, a traditional look. The coin issue details are inscribed on the base, keeping everything else unencumbered.

Each coin comes boxed, with a Certificate of Authenticity, and they’re presented in those very cool solid acrylic display blocks we like so much here. We’ve seen some fine coins with various aspects of Buddhism as a theme, but these are one of the best, and most focused on the real world iconography, that we’ve seen to date. Available to order now, they will ship next month.
