EC8 draws to a close with the penultimate bullion coin issues for the 2019 programme

With eight issues per year, Scottsdale Mints Caribbean themed EC8 bullion coin programme has added plenty of variety to their selection of annual releases. Launched last year, 2019 is the second run through the eight island nations that comprise the Eastern Caribbean financial group which these unique designs are issued for.

These two new releases represent the penultimate ones this year, with only St. Lucia yet to put on an appearance. As before, the new releases stick tightly to each nations theme, one established in the debut run last year. For Anguilla, it is the lobster, and for Saint Vincent & the Grenadines, the seaplane. Both are quite different in artistic style from each other. The Anguillan one is highly stylised and fills the reverse face. The St Vincent issue is more realistic, but has a border. It’s part of the appeal of this series.

As usual, 1oz gold and silver variants in each design, with 2,500 of the former and 25,000 of the latter being offered for sale. The usual coloured proof versions will be available shortly. We’ve been tracking this series or some time in our Bullion Coin Profile, so head on over there for the full details of this series.

MINTS DESCRIPTION

ANGUILLA: The 2019 EC8 Anguilla Lobster coin depicts a Caribbean lobster with a stylized bubble pattern, against an ocean bedrock floor with a proof-like finish. Lobster is one of the most common and important exports in Anguilla’s cultural history. Tourism is now a mainstay of Anguilla’s economy, but other important economic activities include fishing, especially for lobster and conch, and constitutes a major export to other parts of the Caribbean and the United States. Due to its internationally recognized culinary community, the island of Anguilla has enjoyed a reputation as “the culinary capital of the Caribbean”.

ST. VINCENT: The 2019 EC8 St. Vincent & the Grenadines coin depicts a seaplane mid-flight over a calm Caribbean beach. Imagine an island chain uncluttered by tourist exploitation, with white-sand beaches, sky-blue water gently lapping the shores, and barely a soul around. The seaplane is a common method of transportation as SVG alone has 32 islands and cays to explore. This multi-island Caribbean nation offers a combination of rainforest eco-adventures, scuba diving, classic Caribbean powder-white sand beaches, luxury accommodation and yachting or sailing adventures.
