The flagship series of the Japan Mint, ’47 Prefectures’ is a range of forty seven coloured silver coins, each of which showcases a specific district in the country. Each coin depicts iconic characteristics of the prefecture in question, usually flora, fauna, a historical event or a natural landmark.

With 40 coins having been released to date, there are only 7 left to come and we’ve already revealed the next one, Fukuoka, in a previous look. Here we have the final four releases for 2015, with the last pair coming in 2016. These ones are expected in the final quarter of 2015, most likely one a month from October but as that’s three months and there are four coins that will be modified in some way. The prefectures covered this time are Wakayama, Osaka, Nagasaki and Chiba and we’ll look at them in more detail later closer to launch.

A while back we produced a Coin Series Profile to the whole range with images and comprehensive details, so if you’re interested in this fascinating set, head on over for a look. Basic specs are a one-ounce fine (0.999) silver coin with highlight colouring on the reverse and a common obverse. Available in a choice of either simple CD-case style packaging, or in a more invoilved book-style box along with five stamps. Not the easiest coins to pick up, but dealers like Downies and Powercoin usually have them for around the €100 mark.
