CIT Winter Launch Day: The joys of the open road adorn CIT’s third celebration of transport

An annual series starting in 2019 with a lovely nautical anchor design, followed in 2020 with a cool radial-engined aeroplane propeller, now comes to the automobile world with ‘Open Roads – Open Hearts’. A black proof range, replete with proof and frosted highlighting, these have a cool, clinical look to them, and this one is no different.

A piece of 1950’s Americana has inspired this one, and while it doesn’t top last years aviation inspired effort, it’s an attractive piece. Cars of the period were always imposing chunks of engineering, which have managed to look better with age (mostly), so a great choice. The speedometer markings around the rim are a nice touch.

A 2oz silver coin, with a 999 mintage, it carries a subject that is hugely popular, but quite under-represented in the modern coin world. It also continues a good looking and cohesive series. Maybe a train next year?
