CIT Winter Launch Day: Leonardo da Vinci’s ‘Vitruvian Man’ meets the high-tech world of x-rays
A unique piece, not part of a current series, ‘The Vitruvian man’ is a striking look at one of the most recognisable works of art in human history. Painted by Leonardo da Vinci in 1490, it’s been brought into sharp relief using smartminting, and is laid over a background filled with lots of Leonardo’s inventive sketches.
Issued for Cook Islands, it nevertheless eschews the basic effigy of the Elizabethan Woman for a coloured version of the Vitruvian man done as an x-ray. An imaginative idea we haven’t seen before. A one-ounce silver coin, this is one of our favourites of the Winter Launch coins.
