Biblical Stories series from Scottsdale Mint continues on with Cast the First Stone

Now on its 28th release, Scottsdale Mint’s epic Biblical Series of 2oz rimless, high-relief, antiqued silver coins has become a perennial fixture on the yearly numismatic calendar. The program is to issue six-coins annually over a period of ten years – so 60 coins in total.

Drawing direct inspiration from the famed 19th century woodcut artist, Gustave Dore, he produced a large body of work from which to choose the sixty subjects. Each coin is beautifully done, and the transition from woodcut to metal is a very successful one.

This latest addition offers no surprises, of course, and is a little staid compared to the best of the series, but the moral tale of daring someone to past punishment only if they are free of guilt themselves, is one that still resonates today.
