The Carpathian Mint adds Barbarians to its Woman Warriors series of 2 oz silver coins, the fifth to date.
Despite the backlash to Hollywood’s ridiculous creation of female heroes beating up men three times their size, over recent years, the fact remains that woman have made formidable warriors throughout historical lore, and even in reality. Carpathian Mint’s ‘Woman Warriors’ range has chosen to showcase a mix of some of the more famous ones, and so far, we’ve seen Valkyries, Amazons, Boudica, and Mulan. Joining them today are the barbarian women, who fought with their men across Europe.
Judging from the attire, this beautiful warrior is wearing, we’re going to hazard a guess it’s set near the Mediterranean! The pose is terrific, exhibiting some excellent musculature, just as the warrior in the background does. She carries the two series signature elements – a gilded weapon, and a wooden shield. Both contrast well with the antique finish. Here, she isn’t combating another warrior, but instead battling the darkest elements of mystical nature, surrounded by the skulls of previously fallen victims.
The obverse is a common one to the series, except for 2024, the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II has given way to the Public Seal of Niue, for obvious reasons. It has a partial border in the style of a wooden shield. The coin comes nicely boxed, in a themed slipcover, and with a custom Certificate of Authenticity. The mintage is capped at 500 pieces. This kind of coin was everywhere a few years ago, but relatively few are released today in comparison, but it’s clear the high-quality remains. Barbarian is a fine example of the genre, and our easy favourite of the Woman Warriors series to date. Available to order from today.
