The ANZAC coins continue to pour forth from the Antipodean mints in what is rapidly turning into a flood. There have been quite a few releases to date from the New Zealand Post, the Perth Mint, and finally, the Royal Australian Mint. All are running on-going programs, some over several years, and there are plenty of individual releases like the recent Stamp & Coin duo, and the ANDA Show special. There are quite a few in total that would possibly make a good Superguide, time permitting.

We’ve covered the ANZAC story on several ocassions, so we’ll concentrate on the coin itself, and it’s a rarity these days, being triangular. It’s also a fine design, capturing the efforts and sacrifices of the troops with two soldiers carrying between them a wounded comrade. All of this is overlaid on a map of the famous ANZAC Cove in Turkey. Struck in 0.999 silver, the proof finish coin is very nicely packaged and limited to a maximum of 10,000 pieces. It should be shipping from Tuesday 7th and is available to order now from the RAM website for $90 AUD ($81.82 for Intl. buyers)

MINTS DESCRIPTION

The Australian and New Zealand forces landed on Gallipoli on 25 April 1915, experiencing battles which would change both countries forever. The union between these two countries was born of geographical closeness. The experiences on the battlefields ensured that it continued with the enduring qualities of friendship, shared history and pride in the courage and sacrifices of the original ANZACs.

Many made the ultimate sacrifice in the war zones, but left the distinguished legacy of the ANZAC legend. This triangular coin is part of the Royal Australian Mint’s popular, Official Anzac Centenary Program.
