ANA 2019: Canada adds the fourth issue to its Predator series of silver bullion coins
The fourth issue in the RCM’s Predator series has been launched at the ANA show and carries on the theme of leaping carnivores from the Canadian ecosystem. Following the 2016 Cougar, 2017 Lynx, and 2018 Wolf designs, this 500k mintage 1oz silver coin continues a long line of relatively small mintage nature coins to provide an alternative to the ubiquitous Maple Leaf.
The design by the talented Emily Damstra is okay, but this hasn’t been a favourite series of ours. The pose is a trifle awkward, the sunburst lines overpowering, and the reverse-proof style finish not helpful in realising the fine detail needed to pull off fur realistically.
A good buy if the premiums are low enough, but if they’re not, there’s plenty of lower mintage competition looking for your money.
REVERSE: design features the dynamic engraving of a lunging Grizzly, contrasted against a background of precise radial lines. The reverse also features the micro-engraved maple leaf security feature.
