The Amazons feature on the second coin in the ‘Eternal Sisters’ series showcasing women of legend

T & S Coin have debuted the second coin in their ‘Eternal Sisters’ series, which features the women of legend and mythology, that have impacted history, and culture, since ancient times. The first coin was issued in 2024 and featured Nymphs, the Ancient Greek personification of nature, so very firmly rooted in the fantasy realm. The second coin is less defined. The Amazons, while embellished beyond all reasonable realism, do have some grounding in history. Many women in the wider Greek world, particularly the peoples in Anatolia (modern day Türkiye), fought alongside the men, often gaining a fearsome reputation, and being buried with weapons in their graves. From Greek mythology, however, the Amazons are largely invented.

The coin follows that two-ounce, antiqued, high-relief format that T & S base almost all their releases on, and there’s the signature selective gilding and colour that they employ to great effect. Like The Nymphs, the design is based around a trio of women in an inverted ‘V’ layout, with the main character resting her arm on a beautifully realised panther. Their weapons, and parts of their armour, are gilded to great effect (we find gold against an antique finish particularly effective).

Everything is framed by extensive, and well-detailed jungle growth. All told, an excellent scene. This producer’s pretty common obverse design is utilised again, this time with the Public Seal of Niue at its centre. A good quality black box, and a certificate of authenticity, round out a very nice release. As is usually the case at T & S, the mintage is capped at 500, and the coin is available to order now.
