A few weeks ago we covered the launch of Treasures of Oz’s new lunar range for 2016’s Year of the Monkey. We thought them a fine set of designs, but line art is never a good indicator of the final look, and even our own attempts at mock-ups were nothing more than that. Fast forward three weeks and we’ve recieved images of the actual coins, all excepting the giant 1oz 65mm ‘Mirror Monkeys’ one.
Pretty coins we think, the Perth Mint have a high bar to exceed. The coloured and gilded versions below use the same obverse as the proof. The reverse-proof finish is what has typically been their mass-produced variant, having a 50k mintage that is vastly greater than all the others combined. The box used for the Playful in Bamboo coin is pretty much the same as used throughout the range. All are available to order now from the Treasures of Oz e-store, and dealers worldwide will no doubt have them shortly.

ADVERTISEMENTS
Not a fan of apes (Chimps) being used instead of monkeys with prehensile tails, but the playful in bamboo design is spot on!
True. Even CIT used chimps for their Three Wise Monkeys coins. Staggering how many people think chimp when monkeys are mentioned.
