Emporium Hamburg’s Prehistoric Life II bullion coin range continues into 2026 with the first of three issues, Plateosaurus

After recently releasing the 2026 entrant in their World’s Wildlife bullion coin series, it’s the turn of their Prehistoric Life II range to get its first of three 2026 additions. This will be a twelve-coin range, with three issued every year for four years, and 2026 is the third of them, making this issue the seventh to date, in addition to the twelve that mad up the first series of Prehistoric Life coins.

Again, the primary variant is a one-ounce bullion coin with a 10,000 mintage, and there’s a coloured version of that, and much to our approval, a half-gram minigold, all carrying the same base design. The species here is a Plateosaurus, a Late Triassic (214-204 million years ago) bipedal herbivore, looking like the love-child of an Allosaurus and a Brontosaurus, that lived in what is now Central and Northern Europe. It’s an outstanding design, which we hope will make the transition from render to reality with aplomb.

The design, with its inscribed timeline border and title, follows exactly the style set down in that first T. Rex coin back in 2020, and it’s aged beautifully, free of gimmickry, and seated very much in actual natural history. There’s a reason I’ve spent six years waxing lyrical about this series, and that’s the primary one. It should be available to order this month, so do go and buy one as I’d like to see a series 3 in 2028! I’ve just refreshed the layout of our Bullion Profile of the first series, but more importantly, today saw us put up a similar guide to series 2, so please feel free to head over there for some prehistoric loving…
