The Archangel Michael showcases a rare foray into gold for T&S Coin with a pair of issues based on the striking silver original

T&S Coin have quickly built up a fine portfolio of coins, the vast majority of them in the classic two-ounce, high-relief, antique-finished format that collectors love so much. While the subjects they feature vary quite widely, they rarely venture outside that format. Recently, however, they had a foray into gold, reproducing their original Amenhotep & Nefertiti silver coin in three sizes of gold.

The subject of this latest gold release is another one of their silver coins, the very impressive Archangel Michael coin, released in September 2024. The end result is even more successful, in my opinion, as the design has moved to gold with aplomb, utilising the classic style of artwork that is more at home in the gold market, which eschews the gimmickry prevalent in the silver market.

The design evokes classic tropes of good vs evil, exemplified by the British Sovereign’s St George & the Dragon, but is considerably more detailed, and dynamic. It’s an exceptional coin. Only two formats this time, and one of those is the one-ounce variant with a mintage of just 50 pieces. Of considerably more interest, in our opinion, is the addition of a 0.5 gram minigold. Regular readers will know we’ve been huge fans of the format for years, and never more so than now, when the price of gold has gone stratospheric. The result is a pretty gold coin, with a price not much over €100. Particularly impressive is the 16 mm diameter, which matches the size of most other producer’s tenth-ounce gold coins, which are six times the weight. A super release, and the minigold is one of my favourite gold coins of 2025.
