400th anniversary of the Mayflower expedition is commemorated on a new limited run Pobjoy bullion coin
A big year for the United States with the 400th anniversary of the voyage of The Mayflower. Carrying the Puritans from Plymouth, England to Provincetown, Massachusetts in the New World, this small ship battled for two months to cross the brutal North Atlantic before depositing its cargo of 102 men, women and children on the shores of their new home.
The Royal Mint has already debuted a pretty new coin commemorating the feat and we’re expecting more to mark the occasion, but the latest is a new, limited run bullion coin from Pobjoy Mint and distributed exclusively by APMEX. Depicting the ship under full sail, it’s a neat design and quite similar to the the Perth Mints pirate themed series, ironically also an APMEXclusive. Pobjoy have employed a reverse frosted finish which, from these images, appears to work well.
Just a single format on offer – the ultra popular 1oz fine silver – and the mintage is capped at just 10,000 pieces. A big US event, a good design and a relatively small mintage. Should be popular. Available to order now with shipping commencing in a couple of weeks time. LPM also have them to order.
REVERSE: Features the Mayflower ship along with the dates “1620-2020” which commemorates the 400th Anniversary.
OBVERSE: Depicts an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II used exclusively by Pobjoy Mint.
