Scottsdale Mint adds a gold option to its new Barbados Trident bullion coin series

A last release before 2017 draws to a close, Scottsdale today debuts the gold variant of its new Barbados Trident silver bullion coin. Launched back in September with a 30,000 mintage, it was an attractive design and we were promised gold versions were coming back then. The first of them, the one-ounce version, is now out and the one-fifth ounce variant should follow soon.

No surprises to those familiar with the silver coin. The design on both faces is identical, bar the obvious changes to denomination and composition. The trident is large and centrally placed, everything else being background to it. The obverse features the national emblem of Barbados, a good-looking element that suits the coin well.

Just 5,000 of the one-ounce variants will be produced and each will be packaged in the very secure Certi-Lock packaging. This uses multiple techniques (hologram, encrypted barcode, synthetic DNA), to make the coin as counterfeit proof as possible and appears to work well. An interesting addition to Scottsdales range, although for us at least, the gorgeous Egyptian Relics gold coin is still the standout of this mints selection.

2017 BARBADOS TRIDENT GOLD BULLION COIN

MINTS DESCRIPTION

Scottsdale Mint is pleased to announce the latest release in The Barbados Trident annual bullion coin program – 1 oz Barbados Trident Gold Coin (2017).

The Trident, a symbol of strength and power, draws its roots from the mythical Roman God of Freshwater and the Sea, Neptune.  However, the Trident that serves as the national pride of Barbados and that is found on the Barbados national flag differs from Neptune’s Trident in that the shaft of the Barbadian Trident is broken, symbolizing Barbados’ historical break and eventual independence from the United Kingdom in 1966.

The 1 oz Barbados Trident Gold Coin (2017) is limited to only 5,000 pieces. The coins, manufactured and distributed by Scottsdale Mint and legal tender in Barbados, are struck in .9999+ gold, weighing 1 troy ounce each, proof-like and placed in Scottsdale Mint’s unique-to-the-industry high-end Certi-Lock® packaging.
