Marvel Comics silver bullion coin series stars Wakandan hero Black Panther for its third outing

The Marvel Comics silver bullion coin series is obviously popular, hardly surprising given how successful the Marvel Comics Universe has been for Hollywood. Last May we were surprised to see a Spiderman coin appear, and that was followed in September with a pretty cool Thor effort. Third time out and in a perfect bit of timing, we’re seeing a Black Panther coin. With the new movie due out very soon, interest in this lesser known character will explode, especially if the movie lives up to the pre-release buzz.

The coin is produced by S&A Partners and struck by the Perth Mint and is in a format that collectors of the latters coins will instantly recognise. A 40.60 mm diameter, one-ounce, 0.9999 fineness design that’s issued for Tuvalu, it’s a classic silver bullion coin. The design features a pose similar in concept to the previous pair and will please the Marvel multitudes. As you’d expect from a Tuvalu issue, the obverse has the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II in the centre, surrounded by the coin inscriptions.

As before, the coin sells individually in rolls of 20, or boxes of 100 or 300, and the mintage tops out at 50,000. Due to ship at the end of next week, they’re available from LPM HK, although they should appear more widely over the next month or so. A decent addition to an interesting, popular, and very timely series of bullion coins. With the Marvel pantheon being so large, the series isn’t going to end when they run out of subjects. Hopefully a Hulk coin next.
