With the January releases now out of the way, the next set of issues from the Perth Mint are due on the 30th January to tie in with the upcoming World Money fair in Berlin. There’s no dull way to put it, February is going to be a huge month for two very good reasons.
Firstly, there’s the first coin is the sequel series to one of the biggest hit series of 2014, the Gods of Olympus. This range is to be called the Goddesses of Olympus and the debut coin features the Greek goddess of women and marriage, Hera. We’re going to assume that it’s another three-coin series and we’d guess the other two coins would be chosen from Aphrodite, Athena, Artemis or Persephone, perhaps. Whatever the choice, if the coins stick with the 2014 format, they’re going to be a huge hit in our opinion.
Potentially even bigger is the debut release in the Perth Mints new licenced property, Star Trek. A franchise of simply epic proportions, if handled right this could be one of the hits of the year. The first two 1oz coins feature Captain James T. Kirk and the Starship Enterprise, two of the most iconic subjects in science-fiction lore. We can’t wait to see them and what’s planned for the future.
Even the supporting cast is of a high standard. A new Australian Dinosaur coin, a new Disney coin struck for the New Zealand Mint (first in a new series), a pair commemorating the ANZAC centenaries, and more. Certainly makes up for a relatively unadventurous January in a big way. Roll on the end of the month…
I almost fell over when I saw the info. on Perth’s site about these coins esp. Olympus and Star Trek! And as you noted, great timing for the Berlin show. I am also interested to see what the special Kookaburra will look like.
