Shaped weapon coins reach new levels of esoterica, with Spectres new Dragon Claw Blade
Shaped, dimensional weapon coins have come from nowhere to being one of the more inventive, and popular genres in recent years. Several producers issue these, and some are quite extraordinary, encompassing historical weapons like Tutankhamun’s blade, and mythological blades of various types. The latest issue from Spectres is very much in the latter camp.
Called ‘Dragon Claw Knife’, it’s one of the wilder designs we’ve seen, and a very striking one at that. Curved, and with some quite wicked looking blades on its outer edge, it’s heavily themed around a Chinese-style dragon, complete with a finely detailed head at one end, and stylised clouds along its length. I certainly couldn’t say this would be a practical weapon, but it’s an attention getter, for sure!
Produced in five ounces of fine silver, and antique finished, it reaches an impressive 85 mm at its widest. The handle has a Chinese dragon symbol on one side, and the Samoan issue details on the other. An ambitious piece, and one of the more fantastical releases in the genre, just 200 pieces will be offered, and it comes boxed, with a Certificate of Authenticity.
