Powercoin crumple up a playing card, only this time it’s a silver coin called ‘The Hidden Ace’, the debut of ‘Deck of Destiny’
Released in April, Powercoin’s Paper Airplane coin, followed in October by a paper boat, was a unique take on a silver coin, taking a flat shape and folding it to make something three-dimensional. Working like the art of Origami, they were very original and highly successful at achieving what they set out to do. Their latest coin, the first in a new series called ‘Deck of Destiny’, takes a less extreme route.
Here, the silver ‘paper’ isn’t folded, it’s crumpled, and the effect is just as impressive. This new coin is a playing card, specifically the Ace of Hearts, and it looks like it’s been through the wringer. The effect created by the combination of finish and distortion is quite sublime. It has a silk finish overall, but there are proof finish areas on the reverse face, and a traditional playing card pattern on the obverse, complete with what they call a mandala of luck, created with what looks like antique finishing.
