A paper boat joins the first paper aeroplane in Powercoin’s highly innovative silver coin series, ‘Folded Dreams’
Released in April, Powercoin’s Paper Airplane coin (pictured lower down this article) was a remarkably original piece of numismatic art, and now the Roman producer is adding another childhood classic to the range – the paper boat. This is done in the same folded-paper style, and utilising the same two-ounces of fine silver, that the debut coin did.
These are clever designs, displaying a great attention to detail, not stopping at the basic shape, but adding lots of little extra touches, like paper fold edges, and light texturing. On the airplane coin, that extended to a little bent tip, where it had crash-landed, perhaps, and here it extends to a water stain along the bottom edge, also signifying usage. The whole coin is a simple, but extremely effective use of geometric shapes, and quite unique.
It’s another good-sized coin, almost hitting 100 mm in length, and it’s presented in a themed box reminiscent of those old advertisements we used to get in comic books years ago. It comes with a certificate of authenticity, of course, and the mintage is set at 499 pieces. A very cool addition to this range. What next?
