Parthava Coin releases a larger, gilded version of CITs epic three-ounce Thunder Dragon silver coin
One of the best producers working today, CIT’s seasonal releases are eagerly awaited by coin collectors globally, and the Winter Launch most of all. The 2026 selection was genuinelly first class, but one coin stood out for me above the others, and we gave it a dedicated post. The article ended with the words ‘A triumph of the numismatic art, and exactly the kind of thing this site was born to showcase. More please.’ Well, it seems like someone is listening, because they’ve partnered with Parthava Coin to issue a beautiful five-ounce, gilded version with a limited mintage.
That release was Thunder Dragon, a three-ounce, high-relief silver coin. The design is fundamentally unchanged in the metal, but is now finished with gilding, and the colouring also looks a little more intense to my eye (and the dragons), perhaps to create more contrast with the gold. All the drama and high relief that made the original so striking is back in spades. The diameter has increased from 45 mm up to 65 mm, as the weight increased to five ounces, so I’d imagine this will look mightily impressive in hand.
The simple obverse returns, but now also gilded, and with a bigger dollar denomination. The presentation also remains with one of the latex-skin ‘floating’ frames that make display easy. There isn’t much else to say. It was a terrific coin in January, and it remains just as impressive today. You’ll have to dig a little deeper for this one, but I can’t imagine them having any problem selling out the 199 examples being minted. Available to order now.
