Released in December 2014, this is basically a statement coin from the New Zealand Mint who had just signed up for the worldwide numismatic Disney licence. Over the next few years, there was a literal tsunami of Disney coins covering just about every character they created, but it’s here, with this epic gold proof coin that it kicked off huge levels of interest. Struck in a kilo of gold, the mintage was microscopic, and if I remember correctly, just 18 were eventually produced,

We were fortunate to have a client of Minted-UK lend us one (I believe he actually bought three of them!), and he was quite insistent I take it out of the capsule and get some good images of it – an absolute legend. A nervous photoshoot ensued with this then £40k coin, now worth at least triple that. A one-ounce silver coin is used for comparison. A stunning coin, and so much better than the endless parade of low effort coloured coins that followed it.
