The duality of good and evil is visualised on POP Coin’s latest high-relief NEO silver coin
Of all the concepts forming the basis of religions throughout history, the relationship, and usually conflict, between good and evil is without question the most pervasive. From the early faiths of Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece and Rome, to the Abrahamic religions that supplanted them, good and evil are central to them all, defining both the nature of the major forces, and the choices taken by man in response. The resistance to, or acceptance of temptation are perennial
POP Coin’s have chosen the interplay between the two sides for their latest NEO issue, this time a two-ounce silver coin, and the first in their Infinite Duality Paradox series. Done with a distinctly Abrahamic flavour, the design is strikingly simple, depicting the idea that the two sides are more intertwined than would appear on the surface. The angel is finished in a shiny proof finish representing the light, the demon coloured black to show it is a force of shadow and darkness. The coloured background is dark, with the flames of hell licking up from below, and a shaft of ethereal light penetrating from above. The two embrace, hinting that both exist as one. It’s a great design, free of intrusive inscriptions.
The obverse is split into two textures, with a polygon filled area on the left being proof-finished to reflect the light as it’s turned in the hand, and the right side carrying a rough texture, like reptilian skin, or a cracked magma look. It isn’t a subtle reflection of the concept of good and evil, but it is an effective one. The two sides are split by the issue details in rather a neat way.
The coin comes boxed and with a certificate of authenticity, and like all issues from POP Coins, has a relatively tiny mintage at a scant 199 pieces. A striking, though-provoking release, it should be available to order now.
