Numiscollect and Pop Coins issue an official silver coin to mark the 2025 Rio de Janeiro numismatic convention

While the World Money Fair in Berlin, and the ANA World’s Fair of Money are the largest numismatic conventions in the annual calendar, there are many other regional ones flying the flag for our hobby. Tokyo, Hong Kong, Beijing, Sydney, and Singapore, all host fairs, as does Rio de Janeiro, whose V Convención Internacional de Historiadores y Numismáticos, services South America’s largest country, Brazil.

Some of the bigger shows inspire special coins, usually in the form of a modified bullion item. The Perth Mints coloured Kookaburra’s, and Germania Mints privy coins, are examples of this. Fully original designs are considerably rarer, but that’s what Numiscollect and Pop Coins have produced for the Rio convention, and in two variants, to boot.

The reverse face carries a reproduction of the convention logo, which features the cities iconic Christ the Redeemer statue, partly framed by a laurel wreath. It’s here that the variations occur, with the more common one (200 mintage) cleanly struck, and the rarer version (50) coloured. The obverse is a nice design, depicting a train, the first electric one line to be inaugurated in Brazil, snaking its way up the 710 metre, Corcovado Mountain, upon which sits the Christ statue.

This one ounce silver coin is issued for Ghana, comes in themed packaging, and is available to pre-order now. For those lucky enough to consider going to the show, it takes place from 2-6 September at the JW Marriott Hotel, in Copacabana, and will be filled with collectors, mints and an auction.
