Great Greek Mythology, Mint XXI’s epic 36-coin series, adds its penultimate trio of coins, including the big boss himself, Zeus

Mint XXI’s flagship ‘Great Greek Mythology’ series is rapidly heading to completion with today’s launch of the 11th of twelve tranches of three coins, on its way to make a quite epic 36-coin depiction of the major characters in the Ancient Greek pantheon. For those new to the series, the 36 are a mix of 12 one-ounce coins, 16 two-ounce coins, and 8 three-ounce coins, released in batches of three. The three here comprise one of each weight, leaving just a pair of 2 oz coins, and a solitary 1 oz, to release later this year and wrap it all up.

The biggest of this trio is, appropriately enough, the biggest of the gods, Zeus, and it’s an imperious depiction, looking just how we imagine the statue at Olympia, one of the 7 Ancient Wonders, would have looked. The two-ounce offering is Apollo, the god of music (hence the lyre), prophecy, and healing. Considered the most beautiful of the gods, he’s surrounded by women.

The smallest of the three, is The Moirai, the Greek personification of fate. In fact, they’re more commonly known as The Fates, and the three sisters are Clotho, who spins the thread of life, Lachesis, who measures out its length, and Atropos, who cuts the thread to end the life. A terrific depiction, perfectly encapsulating the three pivotal figures.
