WMF20: Powercoin replicates humanities outreach to the stars with Voyagers Golden Record

Powrcoin continue with their excellent knack of choosing cool subjects for their coins with a reproduction in miniature of the Sounds of Earth golden record. Placed on Voyager 1 and Voyager 2, it was a recording of music, speech, animal noises, and some sounds of nature, along with 116 images. and was designed to give aliens an idea of what life on Earth was like.

As nobody has dropped by to visit us, we can only assume the Daleks haven’t found it yet, or simply don’t have a record player… If they have pockets, however, they can pick up this new half-ounce silver coin from Powercoin which looks to do a fine job replicating the look of the original, but in miniature. Saying that, despite only being a half-ounce in weight, it stretches out to an expansive 50mm in diameter – pretty impressive.

Fully gilded with some aging effects, it’s the perfect homage to what seems today, to be a simplistic and quaint way to encapsulate humanity. Available to order now, it should ship around the end of March in a themed box with a C.O.A.

This interesting Silver coin is dedicated to “The Voyager Golden Records”, two phonograph records that contain sounds and images selected to portray the diversity of life and culture on Earth for extraterrestrials. The coin has a Proof quality, is fully gilded, has a special shape and comes in a themed case, along with the Certificate of Authenticity. Limited mintage to 500 pcs worldwide.
