We’ve seen plenty of pre-release coins at the World Money Fair in Berlin and it’s time to start rolling them out. First up is the sequel to last years hit ‘Werewolf’ coin, one that appeared out of the blue from Liechtenstein-based producer, Coin Invest Trust (CIT) in October 2013. It seemed popular enough at the time with lots of forum interest, so a follow-up was almost inevitable.
The 2014 coin (a little late to the party) features the Vampire and carries on the signature detail of its predecessor, a white marble insert. Whereas the Werewolf was represented by a marble moon to great effect, the Vampire coin goes with a marble bat in the background and it looks good. The coin design overall is very much a product of the modern Vampire look espoused by such hit television shows as ‘Tru Blood’ and ‘The Vampire Diaries’, rather than by the classic Hammer Horror look of the cult sixties movies. Nods to classic lore abound however, with the Transylvanian castle prominent in the background.
The obverse of the coin is the same as last years as you’d expect, and overall it’s a solid sequel liable to please fans of the first coin. There are no changes to the specification, it’s a 2oz, antique-silver, 50mm round with a 999 mintage. Packaging should hopefully mirror the first coin as well, with the nice quality windowed coin box. We’ve yet to receive concrete info on a release date, and this one is already very late compared to the first, but here’s hoping it won’t be too long. More when we have it.

I was about to buy the werewolf and then I read the description of the vampire coin – really vampire diaries – insert puke sound here. Such a shame – I may still pull the trigger on the werewolf but I couldn’t bring myself to buy vampire novella inspired cr8p. What’s next pray tell – the mommy mummy, the invisible man – blank coin.
