The Simpsons - Bart Simpson mini coin (2022 Perth Mint)
After looking at the new Homer bullion coin yesterday, we’re taking a quick dip back into the animated world of one of TV’s most dysfunctional families. This time it’s Bart, who’s appeared on many coins at the Perth Mint over the last few years. Rather than a traditional round coin, however, the mint has decided to tap into the burgeoning shaped ‘mini-figure’ market, best exemplified by the New Zealand Mint’s ‘Chibi’ series, but also by others, like LPM with its Street Fighter coins, and Crown Mint, with its Marvel Mini-Heroes.
Like Chibi, Bart has an enlarged head, a style known as ‘Super-deformed’ in its homeland, Japan. It seems to be easier for animated characters to make a successful transition to the style, and that seems to be the case here. A simplistic interpretation, for sure, but that seems to be the whole point. An ounce in weight, 37.0 x 22.4 mm in size, and struck to a proof finish, we suspect that Simpsons fans will like it. It has a mintage of 2,500 pieces, is boxed with what looks to be an excellent display stand, and is available now.
