The Mint of Poland’s latest silver coin brings the message of Freedom

A new two-ounce fine-silver coin from the Mint of Poland touches on a subject that is the hot topic of conversation around the world – Freedom. Choosing the Statue of Liberty, a gift from France to the United States as the embodiment of the principle, the coin uses this giant symbol on both sides with what looks to be a decent representation in high-relief. The reverse uses colour in quite a psychedelic way, perhaps meaning to harken back to the peace movements of the Sixties.

The obverse depicts the back of the statue, also in high-relief and with some excellent background imagery of pigeons/doves launching away from treetops. Usually a mint that issues for Niue Island, Be Free is one of a growing number being issued for the Republic of Cameroon. A strange choice for this coin given that Cameroon ranks 145th of 159 on the Human Freedom Index, while New Zealand (the administrator of Niue) ranks 3rd. The coin comes in a floating frame and with a certificate of authenticity. The mintage is set at 999 and it should be shipping later this month
