There’s pussies on the starboard bow, scrape em off Jim! Niue goes weird with Star Trek foil

FOILDISPLAY

We’re not often surprised at new releases as most are variations on a theme, but eyebrows were definitely raised when this silver foil first put in an appearance. The New Zealand Mint have been putting out Star Trek foils at a fair pace, having already issued Original Series and Next Generation sets, as well as having an ongoing movie poster premium foil series, but their latest release is… odder.

Jenny Parks is an artist who in 2017 published a graphic book in which the cast were replaced by cats. Kirk is an Orange Tabby, Spock an Oriental Shorthair, McCoy a Grey/White Longhair, Chekov a Russian Blue, Sulu a Japanese Bobtail, Uhura a Burmese, and Scotty a Scottish Fold (of course). It’s quite unusual and you’ll either love it or hate it.

It’s a standard 5 g silver coin note, so not hugely expensive ($39.00 USD), and it comes neatly packaged for easy display. The mintage is a healthy 10,000 so it should be easy enough to pick one up. Parks also carried the style over to the Next Generation, so if this one is successful, expect to see a follow up. Available now.
